TeacherGPT ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service designed for primary teachers in Australia.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By accessing or using TeacherGPT, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, name, and password (which is securely stored). If you use Google login, we receive basic profile information from your Google account as permitted by your Google account settings.
Educational Context: We collect information you provide about your teaching environment, including year level taught, number of students, and any additional information about your school or classroom that you choose to share.
User Input: When you interact with TeacherGPT, we collect the messages you send to generate responses.
Usage Data: We collect basic data about how you use the app, including frequency of use and types of requests made. We use Google Analytics to help us understand user behavior and improve our service. This may include information such as pages visited, time spent on the service, and features used.
Device Information: We automatically collect certain technical information when you visit our service, such as IP address, browser type, and device type.

How We Use Your Information

Providing Services: We use the information you provide (including account details, educational context, and messages) to deliver our core service - generating relevant, contextual responses to your requests using OpenAI and Anthropic APIs.
Service Operation: We use technical data to operate and maintain our service, troubleshoot issues, and ensure security.
Service Improvement: We may analyze anonymised usage patterns to improve the functionality and user experience of our platform. Google Analytics data helps us understand user behavior and optimize our service accordingly.

Data Processing and Sharing

AI Service Integration: We transmit your messages along with your educational context information to:
No AI Training: The information you provide is not used to train or improve AI models, either by us or by OpenAI or Anthropic (as per their respective policies for API usage).
Third Parties: We do not sell your personal information to third parties or use it for advertising purposes. We use Google services (USA) for authentication and analytics, which process data according to Google's privacy policy.
Service Providers: We may engage trusted third-party service providers to help operate our business who may have access to your personal information only to perform tasks on our behalf:
  • Digital Ocean (USA) for hosting and storage
  • Stripe (USA) for billing and subscription management
  • Mailgun / Sinch (USA) for email communications
  • Google Analytics (USA) for service analytics
  • Laravel Nightwatch (USA) and Sentry (USA) for application monitoring and error reporting

Sub-processors

We use the following sub-processors to provide, secure, monitor, and improve TeacherGPT. We do not intentionally disclose student personally identifiable information to overseas sub-processors, and we recommend that users do not include personally identifiable information about students in prompts or generated resources.

Data Storage

Your data is stored on secure Digital Ocean servers and storage buckets located in Sydney, Australia.

TeacherGPT operates from New Zealand. While none of your data resides or passes through New Zealand, if you require support, the team may gain access to metadata on your account. Our support team cannot see your conversations or personally identifiable information, but can access your subscription status, usage patterns, and basic profile information to provide assistance.

Overseas Disclosure

We are not likely to disclose personally identifiable information to overseas recipients. Some service providers we use are headquartered outside Australia, including in the United States, but they are engaged only to help us provide, secure, and improve TeacherGPT.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and provided educational context for as long as you maintain an active account.
We retain message history to provide you with the ability to reference past interactions.
You may delete your account and associated data through the TeacherGPT UI, or request deletion by contacting us at support@teachergpt.com.au

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information.
In the event of a data security breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable Australian law.

Children's Privacy

TeacherGPT is designed for teachers and educational professionals, not for direct use by students.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.
While our service is designed to help teachers create educational materials, we recommend against sharing personally identifiable information about your students in your requests.
If you believe you have shared sensitive information about children and would like it removed, deleting a chat from your account will permanently delete all data associated with that chat from our servers. For any concerns, please contact us at support@teachergpt.com.au.

Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other applicable Australian privacy laws, you have certain rights regarding your personal information:
Access and Correction: You have the right to access, update, or correct the personal information you have provided to us
Deletion: You can delete your account and personal information through the TeacherGPT UI, or request deletion
Data Portability: You can request a copy of the personal information you have provided to us.

Privacy Complaints

If you believe we have breached your privacy, please contact us at support@teachergpt.com.au with details of your concern. We will acknowledge your complaint, investigate it, and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.
You will be notified of any material changes to this policy via email or through an in-app notification.
Continued use of TeacherGPT after such modifications constitutes your acknowledgment of the modified Privacy Policy.

Governing Law
